Project DIE demo on itch.io

First and foremost, happy holidays!

Game development is often a long, difficult process. I first talked about re-creating Dead Island: Epidemic on Steam discussion boards about 3 years ago. I haven’t been able to fully commit my time to this project, but I have made some awesome progress. The biggest news today, is that Project DIE has a completely free demo available to play on itch.io now:

The demo is simple by design. Originally, it was meant to develop and test new features internally. But I was having some fun with it, and thought, why not make something out of it and get it out there!

The demo features a day & night cycle, weather patterns, a playable character called Eric who throws beer kegs around and wields a fire axe, and 6 different types of zombies trying to eat you alive. The goal is to survive as long as possible.

I should note that it’s not representative of the final game. The final game will have much more to it, and some features in the demo will have either changed significantly or have been removed.

Since the previous blog there have been a handful of other adjustments, like a new UI and moving slightly further away from the low-poly art style. I think the style we’re going for is somewhere between realistic and stylized, and we’ll continue chipping away at getting the look just right over time.

Anyways, I’m on vacation in Hawaii through the rest of the year. I’ll take some inspiration while I’m there for our tropical island themed maps!
